The Descendents of Edward Estabrook

8th Generation

Edward Estabrook was the oldest of the John Estabrook children. As stated above, he was born in 1822. In early manhood he moved north to the lead and zinc mining district of Platteville, Wisconsin where he settled and married.

The family of Edward Estabrook are listed in the “Estabrook Genealogy” under the numbers 1413-1417, as shown below, but new numbers, 1 thru 67 have been used in the description of their descendents.

1413.Charles Edward Estabrook, Born in 1847, Platteville, Wisconsin. He married Jenny Hodges. He practiced law and was elected Attorney General of the state in 1886. He server several terms and was later the State Librarian. Estabrook Park in Milwaukee is named in his honor. He died in Milwaukee in 1918.

1414. Susan Maria (Estabrook) Stewart, Born in Platteville, Wisconsin in 1849. She died in Washington D.C. in1909. In 1877 she married Edwin Stuart, a paymaster in the United States Navy, who had served during the Civil War. In 1859 he became Paymaster General of the United States Nave with a rank of Rear Admiral. He was a graduate of Andover Academy and received an honorary degree of Law from Williams College He was born in 1837 and died in 1933.

1415. Lewis Mitchell Estabrook, Born in Platteville Wisconsin in 1852 and died there in1922. He graduated in law from the University of Michigan in 1875 and was an early settler of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He farmed near Brandon South Dakota from 1883-1894 then returned to Sioux Falls and engaged in real estate and insurance and was active in civil affairs. In 1905 he went back to Platteville and promoted some lead and zinc mining operations. He married Mary M. Cornwall in 1879. She was born in Canada in1858 and died in San Francisco in1928.

1416. Emma J. (Estabrook) Nation, Born in Platteville, Wisconsin in 1854 and died in New York in 1910. Married Burr Nation of Bridgewater, South Dakota in 1880 and divorced after a few years.

1416 (a) Jessie F. (Estabrook) Huntington, Born in Platteville, Wisconsin in 1856, died there in 1938. Married in 1875 to Frank Huntington, a farmer.

1416 (b) Margaret Estabrook, Born in Platteville, Wisconsin in 1859, died in Eldora, Iowa in 1936. She never married.

1416 (c) Clara E. Estabrook, Born in Platteville, Wisconsin in 1861, died in Eldora, Iowa in 1938. She never married.


1417. Mary Francis (Estabrook) Kneedler, Born in Grundy County, Iowa in 1872 and died in California in 1952. In 1893 she married Hiram Sellers Kneedler who was a newspaper publisher and owned the Hardin County Republican. In 1900 they moved to California where he became advertising manager for the Southern Pacific Railroad under Henry E. Huntington. Later he was the Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce of San Bernardino, California. He died in 1941.
